Egyptian Maus

The very origins of our domestic cats are found in this spotted but fully domestic cat.  These are the domestic cats found in the tombs in Egypt. Believed to be the domesticated descendents of African Wildcats, they where nearly lost as a breed until several cats where brought back from Egypt in the 1950’s.  These cats were the basis of the current breed.

The cats are naturally spotted and occur in silver, bronze, smoke, black, and blue/pewter with a distinctive spot pattern. Black and blue/pewter are not eligible for show but are acceptable for breeding and registration. Eyes are “Gooseberry green” and they have a distinctive “M” pattern on their forehead.  Their voices are melodic, almost a ringing sound.  The are extremely docile in nature and outgoing with strangers in general.

They make excellent pets and perfect outcrosses the hybrid since they offer a very docile, outgoing, and cuddly disposition sometimes lacking in wildcat hybrids.

Our Maus are offered as pets or as breeders for both Mau breeding and Hybrid outcrosses. All our Maus are registered with TICA and several of our queens are also registered with CFA. If hybrid spot is too much for your pocket book or lifestyle or if you live in a locale where hybrids have been banned you may wish to consider a Mau.

Mau Queens
We acquired two Egyptian Mau Queens in the fall of 2007.
We hope to begin producing kittens with Merit in the spring of 2008.
